Cabárceno Natural Park 3000 experiences

Cabárceno Natural Park

Cabárceno Nature Park is not a conventional zoo, but a park that is home to some 120 animal species living in semi-freedom. The animals live in large enclosures, with one or more species coexisting in large areas. The environment in which the animals live is as natural as possible, and they spend most of the day in almost complete freedom.

Cabárceno Natural Park covers approximately 750 hectares. There are over 20 km of roads to explore within the park , winding through lakes, gorges, and woodlands.

Cabárceno Natural Park is located in the Pisueña Valley, just 15 km from Santander, making it easy to find accommodation near Cabárceno . Until November 1st, the park is open daily from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. From November 2nd to February 28th, it is open during those hours only on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, and long weekends (from Monday to Friday it is open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm). It is important to note that from 6:15 pm onwards, some animals begin to be returned to their enclosures, where they are fed and observed, as required by international organizations.

For panoramic views from above, you can take the Cabárceno cable car, which connects strategic points of the park along its 6 km length. The complete journey includes two lines and takes about 50 minutes. There are four stations to access the cable car:

- Next to the East entrance of the park.

- Next to the Mirador de Rubí (North area).

- Next to the bear enclosure in its northern part.

- Next to the South entrance of the park.

Cabárceno Nature Park features raptor flight demonstrations, where you can observe their flying techniques and learn their main hunting strategies. There are also demonstrations with sea lions. In addition, you can explore various botanical trails within Cabárceno Nature Park .

Since last August, Cabárceno Nature Park has been offering visitors a new Eco-Bus (hybrid bus) so they can explore the park without needing a car. It's free, has 118 seats, is accessible to people with reduced mobility, and allows passengers to hop on and off as many times as they like at the various stops throughout the park.

If you are traveling with a pet, you can visit the Cabárceno Natural Park , provided it is properly tied up and controlled (it will not be allowed in the restaurants, cable cars and the gorilla building).

Cabárceno Natural Park has numerous parking areas, recreation areas, picnic areas, viewpoints, cafes and restaurants, a children's playground... making it an ideal place to spend the day with the family.

You can add to your booking the general admission to the Cabárceno Natural Park , for both adults and children (from 4 to 12 years old).

Soplao Cave 3000 experiences

Soplao Cave

The El Soplao Cave is located between the Cantabrian municipalities of Herrerías, Valdáliga, and Rionansa, high in the Sierra de Arnero mountain range, at an altitude of 540 meters and 83 km from Santander. It offers magnificent views of the Sierra de Peña Sagra, the Picos de Europa mountains, the Nansa River valley, and the Cantabrian Sea.

El Soplao ” is a mining term referring to the air that is felt when descending from a gallery to one with less oxygen. The El Soplao Cave was discovered by miners who, around 1908, drilled the gallery as part of the exploitation of the La Florida mines. It is considered one of the great wonders of geology, as it holds a true speleological paradise: helictites, stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones, columns, cave pearls, dogtooth spar… A veritable interplay of shadows, light, and colors.

In addition to its geological value, the El Soplao Cave and its surroundings boast an exceptional heritage of industrial mining archaeology, with over 20 km of galleries. Mining activity has also left its mark on the surface, with headframes, calcination kilns, washing plants, and workshops.

A replica mining train will take you through the La Isidra mine tunnel to the cave. Once there, a walking tour will take you through the galleries and chambers of La Gorda, Los Fantasmas, Mirador de Lacuerre, Centinelas, and Ópera. The tour lasts approximately one hour and combines geological and mining experiences, with galleries and industrial mining archaeology.

The path along most of the route is made of non-slip cement, although there are some wet areas (dripping water). The route is equipped with railings and handrails, and the lighting recreates the original conditions of the surrounding environment (cave/mine), so there are some dimly lit areas. Comfortable shoes (without heels) and warm clothing are recommended (the temperature inside is around 12 to 14 degrees Celsius, with a relative humidity of around 90%).

The El Soplao Cave offers all the necessary infrastructure for visitors. The visitor reception building combines traditional mining construction methods with cutting-edge techniques and houses amenities such as an arrival hall, ticket offices, a souvenir shop, a cafeteria and self-service area, a terrace, a viewing tower, restrooms, and more.

The building also has a workroom that can be used for various events, such as congresses, conferences, courses, etc. Outside, there is a large parking area with a separate area for buses, recreational areas, and an exhibition of contemporary sculpture.

Furthermore, El Soplao Cave is adapted for people with reduced mobility (100% of the route is wheelchair accessible). Access to the last section of El Soplao Cave requires the use of a platform lift. Children up to 12 years old and wheelchair users must be accompanied by an adult. Strollers are not permitted, but baby carriers are available at the ticket office.
