Locations of Valencia Coast
The coastal town of Piles is located in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, specifically; we can find it between Miramar to the north, Palmera and Alquería de la Condesa to the west and Oliva to the south.
The coastal town of Piles is located in the Autonomous Community of Valencia.
The urbanístico complex of the town rises between the Nazaret-Oliva road and the road known as escalón prelitoral that crosses the Levante. The town has maintained its original layout for centuries, where it coexists with the main square and the carrer de Baix. From this area, other buildings were added until today. Piles runs to the north along Miramar street and to the west along carrer del Forn, carrer de Salvador Salom and carrer Nou, these last three lead to Santa Barbara street, the most popular leisure area of the town, as from this street, keeping the course to the west, we find a variety of restaurants and bars. In recent years, Piles has grown to the north following the street Cervantes and to the south, through the streets Moreres and Ramon y Cajal. In the town center we find the Pare Pons square, the old town, the town hall and a variety of stores and schools.
The town of Piles is developed on the basis of its famous watchtower, a watchtower and defense of the sixteenth century, ordered to build Vespasiano Gonzaga and Colonna, Viceroy of Valencia, by the then King, Philip II. The aforementioned tower stands on a diameter of ten meters and a height of thirteen meters, with a thickness of almost three meters in its base walls and about two meters in its highest area. The tower, divided into two floors and slightly inclined to the west, is one of the main monuments that you should definitely visit in the town.
If you decide to travel in summer, you should know that Piles has an incredible beach of fine sand and a spectacular golden color that, when the sun's rays hit it, and contrasting with the wonderful blue of the sea, create a paradisiacal environment, which is perfectly complemented by beautiful dunes, full of vegetation.
The main engine of the economy of Piles lies in its 78% of cultivated land, or what is the same 373 hectares of land of orange and tangerine crops that adjoin the city. Being a coastal town, a significant part of its income is generated by beach tourism, since its paradisiacal environment and its impeccable natural spaces attract tourists from within and outside our borders.
The town is located in the heart of the Valencian Community, which guarantees to enjoy a delicious paella, accompanied by a good wine, in a cozy atmosphere. In addition, if you are one of those people who love refreshing juices or cocktails with citrus fruits, you are guaranteed to enjoy elaborations with natural oranges freshly obtained from their crops. In Piles you can not only enjoy the traditional Valencian gastronomy and its spectacular spaces at the foot of the coast, the town also has a great cultural attraction, remarkable if we start from the beach, where we find the aforementioned Torre de vigía de Piles, registered as Historic-Artistic Heritage or the most colorful neighborhood of the city, where we will find the Parish Church of Santa Bárbara, built in the sixteenth century, which preserves its chapel; dedicated to the Comunión of the previous church. This was damaged by an earthquake in 1732, but has not lost its original construction on the old mosque. The building has undergone several reconstructions over the years and currently looks impeccable. Every fourth of December, Piles celebrates the feast in honor of the saint after whom the complex is named
.
The leisure offer presented by Piles is located mainly on the coast, since, not being a destination in high demand by tourists, allows you to enjoy a calm atmosphere with other people who also decide to visit the town. Along with the leisure offer on the beach, the municipality presents its sports week, which allows residents and visitors to participate.
As mentioned above, Piles celebrates in early December its minor festivities in honor of Santa Barbara, deity of the parish church and patron saint of the municipality itself, but undoubtedly the most important festivity of the town are its major festivals, held every year in early May, being also the celebration with the longest duration. It is held in honor of San Felipe Neri, Cristo de la Agonía, the Virgen del Carmen, San Fernando and the Immaculate Conception.
A curious fact is that Valencian pelota player; Juan Ciscar Sancho, was bornó in this municipality. The athlete is considered one of the biggest celebrities of Piles and is presented as a very important sports figure of the sport in the Autonomous Community. The player was awarded in 1990 with the Federació de Pilota Valenciana.
